Sensitive souls abstain. A seventy-year-old was absent during the first confinement two years ago so as not to be alone. When he returned in June 2020, a family of rats had taken up residence there the toilets of his apartment in GerlandIn Lyon.

Jonathan Rive, exterminator in Lyon, shares what he believes to be one of his worst interventions. He remembers it like it was yesterday. He had been contacted by this lady who lived in an elevated ground floor apartment. “She couldn’t open the bathroom door,” he recalls. The pictures are terrible.

A terrifying vision

“I pushed a bit and in fact it was rodent droppings, there was a dropping barrier. Upon opening… catastrophe! I’ve never seen that before. The scene is cruel, unbearable. “We see in the video the dead father To the left. The mother and her three children stayed behind. »

Illuminated by Jonathan Rive’s flashlight, these rats had come through the toilet pipes. This chilling phenomenon happens more often than you might think: “It happens a lot. Last summer I remember a rat going into the toilet of an apartment in Villeurbanne. If they’re in there, I’ll put on gloves and try to catch them. »

“I treated with poison”

In Gerland, this method was impossible because the premises were unsanitary. The Lyon pest controller worked in three steps to rid the poor resident of these pests. “I treated with poison first. When I came back the little ones were dead. The mother? I had to catch them with a sticky disk. I had no choice, the room was too small to capture her. »

Then he removed them and performed fumigation disinfection. “I advised the lady to call a cleaning company because it is a carrier of disease. »

What to do with a rat

Jonathan Rive, who has faced a giant 32-inch rat before, shares tips for a similar situation. The NuisiProtect Deratizer reminds us that this mishap can happen to anyone, regardless of hygiene:

“90% of rodents pass under the kitchen ducts, but sometimes they also climb up the toilet pipes. If you have a rat at home, You have to be careful because it attacks. Don’t try to challenge him. If you’ve seen where he came from, you must leave that location open for him to leave. Its flight direction is almost always the place where it arrived. »
