Para athletics in Meaux

Saturday 9 April, at 2 p.m., the first adapted para athletics session took place. Accompanied by their parents, seven mentally handicapped children enjoyed an hour of outdoor sports at the Tauziet stadium in Meaux.

The goal is to make these young people dream and give them the opportunity to identify with great athletes like Charles Antoine Kouakou, who qualified for the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

At the start of this first unit, Eva, the sports educator trained in adapted sports who supervises the unit, offers the game “The Fox’s Tail” and different rules apply here. There is no team and there are no losers. The children run, jump, slide and seem to be having a lot of fun.

This is followed by a game of skill in which each child has to jump into the hoops of the announced color, then it’s time to run with a team relay and so on for an hour. There are a total of 5 different workshops that young athletes can try.

At the end of the session, both children and parents leave with a smile on their face. One of the mothers gives us her impressions and reasoning about her son : “It was nice! We will persevere! »

How to register ?

These “trial lessons” allow, once the registrations are closed, to start these para-athletics courses weekly from the beginning of the school year in September. Registration is still open and there are still a few places available for children between the ages of 7 and 17 years old with a disability. Only two forms need to be returned for registration and the license is offered by the Athlétique Club du Pays de Meaux.
