It would be a first Neufchatel-en-Bray. A boxing club could be formed in the next school year. But it remains to find the space that can accommodate a ring.
Jérôme Bachelet is at the forefront of this project. This boxing trainer is alive Summery. And his five children are boxers. The last three (Joël, Nohan and Izie) just won regional titles in their categories.
As for Cyndelle (17), we’ve already had a chance to talk about her Olympic dreams for 2024.
“The ideal would be a room in Neufchâtel-en-Bray”
Today Jérôme has another idea in mind and he has already given it a lot of thought. Open a boxing gym in Neufchâtel-en-Bray. Trainers at Noble Art of Rouen, the Sommerois would welcome a Noble Art Neufchâtelois version. “The ideal would be to find a space in Neufchâtel-en-Bray where we could leave the ring permanently installed with punching bags and evening hours between 6pm and 8pm.”
And the former boxer is convinced Pays de Bray has potential.
We train regularly in the Kevin sports hall in Neufchâtel. And we are often asked where there is a boxing club nearby. There is a real demand.
“A nice showcase for the city”
The first contacts with the city of Neufchâtel-en-Bray were very good. “But we block to find a room with matching hours.”
Neufchâtel-en-Bray would really be the ideal city. “After all, the idea would be to be able to organize a competition. Especially since Cyndelle is already boxing at a high level. It would be a great showcase for the city,” explains Jérôme Bachelet.
Now the teenager is in the French team at the gates of Insep, who will integrate her when she comes of age.
Cyndelle is preparing for the French Championships and the European Championships with the French team.
And the young girl’s calling card fills up a little bit more every year until now she’s pursuing an Olympic dream for Paris 2024.
But in the Bachelet family there are other contenders for martial exploits. Izie (9 years old), Nohan (12 years old) and Joël (13 years old) just won the regional championships in their categories. And the two guys in minimal have just qualified for the French championships.
But when the future in the ring is secured, Jérôme Bachelet is particularly keen to share it with all Brayons interested in the sport.
I call to find a room, preferably in Neufchâtel or in Saint-Saëns.
Among the tracks mentioned was the dojo. But very late hours are not suitable and boxers on tatami mats are not recommended. There are certainly other options, including a room in the old fire station. “We don’t ask for much. Just a slightly heated room and showers. I’ll take care of bringing the ring and all the equipment.
His goal ? Open September 2022.
“I could work with the town hall to integrate school children and offer boxes adapted to all profiles. Boxing is a great way to relieve the stress of everyday life. Young and old could come and let off steam without the spirit of competition,” explains Jérôme Bachelet, certified trainer.
And on the part of the municipality of Neufchâtel-en-Bray, the idea of a boxing club seems to seduce the mayor, Xavier Lefrançois.
We are currently reviewing our room allocation copy. It would be great to have a boxing club in Neufchâtel. It would be the first time.
Several hypotheses are examined. And the mayor promised: “We have to look at everything. But we may have a room or two that could meet demand.”
