After 7 years of absence, the carnival Schools are back on the calendar La Ferte-Mace (orne). April 8, 2022 is a big parade colorful that will liven up the streets.

So she had disappeared from the calendar since 2015, the school carnival celebrates its big comeback on Friday, April 8th. Organized by the city La Ferte Macé (Orne) via the Attractiveness Department, headed by Philippe Madelaine, it takes place just before the start of the spring holidays.

“More than 500 children from public and private schools are expected,” announced Joëlle Tanguy, Deputy Mayor for Culture, Sports and Leisure. For this restart and given the Covid time we have just experienced there was no real preparation for the event in the classes. But for the next editions, the idea is that this carnival can grow and that the school children prepare it”.

The children are of course invited to bring a disguise for this festival. “We also planned music with the brass band fire bells who comes from Fougères. And of course there is confetti! ‘, adds Joëlle Tanguy.

The organizers called for the “Monsieur Carnival”. Frank Karen. Working in the attractiveness department, this well-known visual artist has been working on the Place Fertoise for a few days to create a structure made of wire mesh, glued glass fabric, adhesives. Not wanting to reveal it before D-Day, he remains very evasive when talking about it.

It will symbolize the rebirth, that of carnival, that of nature in spring, with a spirit of freedom, of hope.

While tradition dictates that Mr. Carnival be cremated at the end of the parade, this will not be the case. “This structure could be evaluated elsewhere and reused for subsequent editions,” he explains.

On D-Day, the parade will be progressive. “Supervision is provided by teachers, parents, but also elected officials, city officials in collaboration with the city police,” notes Joëlle Tanguy. At 2 p.m., the students of the Jacques-Prévert school group leave Rue Pasteur. They will take rue Gabriel-Duhé, avenue Lemeunier de la Raillère and then rue de Versailles, where they will be accompanied by their friends from the Paul Souvray school. The procession continues on Rue Gambetta and then Rue d’Hautvie. “This is the street where the schoolchildren of Sainte-Marie will come to join the ranks,” specifies Joëlle Tanguy. This colorful swarm will then pass through Place Leclerc, Rue du Château, Rue Pierre-Neveu to arrive at Place Neustadt.

For security reasons, several municipal decrees have been issued for this Friday, April 8th: from 8am to 5pm, traffic and parking are prohibited on Place Neustadt; from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. parking is prohibited on Place Leclerc; from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. traffic is prohibited on the designated route during the passage of the parade. Residents and motorists are therefore invited to anticipate this day and take their precautions.
