Articles L.111-1 and L.114-1 of the Education Code guarantee access to education for all children aged 3 to 16 and compulsory education for children aged 16 to 18 residing on the national territory. Therefore, every student newly arrived in France, regardless of their nationality or personal situation, must be taught.

Education, support to learn French, financial support: who do I contact?

Schooling is a right of all French and foreign children residing in or arriving in France. In France, Public schooling is free and compulsory for girls and boys aged 3 to 16. All young people between the ages of 16 and 18 without school, training or employment are supported in finding solutions for returning to school or accessing qualifications or employment.

Is your child between 3 and 10 years old?

To enroll your child in school when they are between 3 and 10 years old, the steps must be taken at the town hall of your place of residence.

Is your child between 11 and 18 years old?

If your child is between the ages of 11 and 18, you can either contact the college or high school closest to your accommodation, or contact the National Education Services in the department of your accommodation ( DSDEN: Directorate of Department Services of National Education).
For young people aged 16 to 18 who did not want to go to school, the DSDENs also support them in finding a job or vocational training.
