Isabelle’s question

Does Emmanuel Macron really want to send 12-year-old children to an apprenticeship, as Jean-Luc Mélenchon says?

Hello Isabelle,

Your question follows a post by Jean-Luc Mélenchon. At a meeting on the Place du Capitole in Toulouse, the La France insoumise candidate in the presidential elections this Sunday, April 3, declared: “How could Emmanuel Macron imagine sending a 12-year-old child to an apprenticeship?”

“Nobody will do an apprenticeship sooner”

“Whatever happens, it will not happen because of international conventions signed by France, forbid sending a young person to work before the end of compulsory schooling. And in France it’s 16 years! No one goes to class before that!”

The sequence, broadcast from the Insoumis candidate’s own account on Twitter, has been viewed more than 130,000 times.

With these remarks, Jean-Luc Mélenchon repeats several messages posted on Twitter this Thursday, March 31, following an alleged statement by Emmanuel Macron on the move.

What did Emmanuel Macron really say?

On March 31st Emmanuel Macron was present in Fouras in Charente-Maritime. He was arrested in particular by a restaurateur who expressed his difficulties in hiring staff.

“We have to make your professions better known, and therefore alternately, learning and orientation from the 5th getting to know, make these professions known”, explained Emmanuel Macron and took up a point of his program: “All children will discover several professions from 5th to 3rd place, including technical and manual trades”.

“It’s a scandal to say that”

Asked France Inter This Monday morning, Emmanuel Macron, candidate En Marche! went back to what he describes when he was re-elected “fake news”.

“Fake news spread by Jean-Luc Mélenchon was circulating all weekend. I never said that young people at 12 should be sent to an apprenticeship. It’s a scandal to say that. I saw that in the Said age of 12 children should be allowed to learn crafts, that has nothing to do with it, so the regions let the companies come for a few hours.
