Company | In Gémenos new games for disabled children

It all started a few years ago with comments from several mothers in the village. “They came to tell me that it was difficult for their disabled children to have fun because the games weren’t suitable for them,” recalls Mayor Roland Giberti. Previously, a large pirate ship took place in Alberta’s park. The city team had added a small train suitable for children in wheelchairs. “It was a start, but not enough from our point of view. We wanted to see bigger‘ the mayor repeated.

He then launched a call for projects, which had great success in 2021. The Husson company offers large colorful slides with other games for everyone. Entering the park, even adults want to run and test the new facilities. “It was a big gamble! The residents were already tied to the big ship, so the new area had to be big,” continues the man, who is also president of the Marseille Provence Territorial Council.

Double slide for accompanying persons

When they arrive, the children stand in front of a turnstile. “You have to put yourself in the shoes of the little ones, who never had any of that, everything is here for them,” says the mayor. Large ramps then lead the adventurers to a tower surrounded by flowers. There is a slide waiting for you to come down… And for children with disabilities who have an accompanying person, a double slide was designed.

If young people are happy to be able to enjoy this park, the residents of the neighboring house would not share this enthusiasm. In fact, the artificial trunks as well as the colored hut would stand near their windows. These Gémenosiens then expressed their dissatisfaction to the mayor. Especially since Albertas Park has been very successful in recent months…

Since February, the new games have been installed, and every time the gates open, the world flocks. “To respect the Vigipirate school code, we regularly close the park’s doors. It is therefore open from 4.30 p.m. on weekdays and every Wednesday and weekend.‘ said the mayor.

A big disappointment for Coline, 5, and Marion, her mother, who would like to go to the crime scene more often. “There are a lot of visitors since there are these novelties! Sometimes we only stay a few minutes because it’s not possible to take full advantage… But we won’t complain. You rarely see that in small towns“, says Marion. She noticed that many residents of the surrounding towns came to enjoy the activities. “I meet many people from La Ciotat, Cuges-les-Pins or Auriol‘ she elaborates.

The total cost of this operation? 500,000 euros with a 60% subsidy from the faculty council. And the next step to please the elders in the village, “this will be the skate park“, Traffic Roland Giberti.

Albertas Park: 45, rue Sébastien-Maurice-Lambert. Open from 4.30pm and all day on Wednesdays and weekends.
