After 6 consultations, 1 echo and 3 pregnancy tests, she finds out that she is pregnant at the time of delivery

Ellie Johnson is 24 and lives in Henham, England. With Kennedy News and Media, the young Brit tells how she became a mother in 2018, when neither she nor the doctors knew she was pregnant. However, several tests were carried out to determine a possible pregnancy.

Tests that do not reveal their pregnancy

In August 2018, the student at the time suffered from severe abdominal pain. In September, she decides to seek counseling about this pain. Tests found no cause, and although she was on birth control pills and had already had a urine pregnancy test, which came back negative, a blood test was done to see if she was pregnant. In all, she will have taken three pregnancy tests, and all of them were negative.

The blood test also evaluates other parameters that Ellie doesn’t specify to try to understand what’s happening to her. Since the results are inconclusive, the patient is sent to a gastroenterologist in October: “They thought something was wrong with my digestive system. […] All simple causes were ruled out by testing, so they figured it was something serious and I must have a blockage somewhere.”, she remembers. On December 20, 2018, the young woman even did an ultrasound of her abdomen and ribs and again nothing explained her abdominal pain and the fact that she felt bloated even without having eaten anything first.

The young woman is worried, and with good reason: her six consultations with different doctors, the three pregnancy tests carried out and the abdominal ultrasound have never revealed the cause of her ailment, however simple. She is pregnant ! But she won’t find out until a few days after her ultrasound.

She found out about her pregnancy when she gave birth

On December 21, Ellie decides to take her mind off this four-month medical odyssey and go out to dinner for her grandmother’s birthday. She goes to bed at 10 p.m. but feels severe pain in her abdomen and lower back. She vomited so profusely for several hours that her mother called an ambulance and she was taken to the emergency room at 2 a.m.

Her pain then intensifies and the explanation for everything she has had to endure over the past few months is revealed as she goes to the bathroom: “I went to pee and I felt my lower abs tighten and I was like, ‘There’s something, something’s wrong.’ Because of all the rest, I felt like my intestines were coming out of my stomach. I yelled for the nurse, who came running and said, “No, nothing will come out, we’ll put you on the bed and examine you”.

Ellie is lying and the doctors are examining her: “I said the pain was really bad and worse than ever and they rolled me onto my side and that’s when his head came out.” To her and the doctors’ astonishment, it turns out that she is having a baby! A midwife is called immediately, but she doesn’t have time to come: a new wave of pain breaks out and the baby finds himself frantic, lying on the bed behind his mother.

On December 22, 2018 at 5:40 a.m., Ellie gave birth to their first child, a baby girl named Alicia. “I couldn’t quite believe it. I thought I was hallucinating from the pain and then I had this little bundle of love next to me and then snuggled up to me and this little baby head. That’s when I really realized and believed what was happening to me.”She remembers the young mother.

After the birth of their daughter, doctors tried to find explanations as to why Ellie’s pregnancy was never determined. The fact that she had no symptoms such as nausea, weight gain and rounding of the abdomen is related to her denial of the pregnancy. Referring to the numerous tests carried out that did not reveal her pregnancy, the medical team informed her that if the fetus did not show up on the ultrasound, it was because it was being pressed against her spine, which also caused the severe back pain explain that are felt during pregnancy childbirth. But for pregnancy tests, it’s a mystery because taking birth control pills doesn’t usually prevent a person from becoming pregnant.

Quite a surprise, but a good surprise

Fortunately, in this case, having a child was a good surprise for Ellie. The young mother could count on the support of her loved ones, who, having realized what had happened, were happy and did everything possible to help her. They have collected lots of baby stuff and child care equipment. As for Alicia, she recently celebrated her 3rd birthday and her mother describes her as one “energy ball” : “She’s a little fighter […]. She’s amazing, smart. […] I couldn’t imagine my life without her.”
