A rich man drives home a poor woman and her baby, she recognizes the man’s mother as a woman from his past: story of the day

A poor woman has accepted a rich man’s offer to pose as his fiancee to her mother in exchange for housing for her and her child. But things take an unexpected turn when she recognizes her stepmother.

Multimillionaire businessman George Miller has finally left Florida and headed to Canada to visit his mother, Alivia Miller, after a week of text and phone calls and emotional blackmail from her for forgetting her and not bothering had to visit her once in the previous months.

George, a textile merchant in Florida, couldn’t resist his mother and assured her that he would be home next weekend. Instead of flying, however, he chose to drive as it took him some time to think about how to fight his mother’s persuasion to get married – an idea that bothered him.

“Georgie!” she told him on a call last week. “You have everything a woman could wish for. Why not find and marry a girl for you? If it’s too hard, I can find you, girl!”

“Ugh, Mom…” George had fallen silent on the phone. “See, I’m extremely busy with my work right now, and afterwards you’ll know…”

“Busy? You have your whole life to do these things! You know?” she insisted. “When you get home this weekend we’ll speak to a matchmaker. Mrs. Lawson, our neighbor… She told me about this matchmaker and she said he’d find you a partner in no time!”.

“Uh…okay mom…do what you see fit,” he said softly, cutting the conversation off.

He had no intention of getting married anytime soon, but he didn’t want to turn down the wish of his mother, who had been feeling very lonely since her stepfather’s death. To prevent the elderly woman from suffering any more, George decided to visit her.

Halfway down, he catches sight of a bus parked at one end, laden with people like cattle. Their bodies rubbed together and the muscular men pushed the other passengers aside.

George almost sped up his car, but something in the rearview mirror stopped him.

He noticed a woman holding a baby asking for help. She asked the driver to let her in, but he threw his things aside and left. She began to sob desperately and George couldn’t understand why he felt compelled to help her, but he couldn’t see her in this state.

He came back quickly and when he stopped in front of her, he rolled down his window and asked her, “Excuse me, can I help you?”.

The woman clutching her baby stared at him, a little scared. She was dressed in rags, her face was lined, but she didn’t look very old. “Don’t worry,” George reassured her. “I’m not going to hurt you or your child. I just want to help you.”

She looked at him for a moment and then asked, “Could you take us into town? My baby and I are stranded with nowhere to go.”

“Of course,” he said, smiling. “Please come up.”

He helped her pack her things into her car and opened the door for her. She settled into the front seat, held her baby and introduced herself. “My name is Lily and this is Amelia, my daughter. Thank you for helping us.”

Amelia… that’s a pretty name, thought George. Just like his mother…

In fact, by this point, George had already fallen in love with Lily. Destitute and impoverished, she was beautiful, and George had never felt this way about anyone else before. “No problem, Lily,” he said with a friendly smile. “Your daughter is adorable and she has a beautiful name.”

Lily smiled, then her eyes widened. “She looks a lot like her father… If only he were with us today, we wouldn’t have to put up with this,” she whispered. And George noticed that tears quickly replaced his smile. Then he worried about what would happen if he told her about the idea forming in his head.

“Well, Lily,” he said after a pause. “If you don’t mind, I can put you and Amelia up with my mother. However, I need a favor from you.”

Lily’s eyes slowly shifted to her child and she held him tight as if she was suddenly afraid of George. “Listen… you… I – I don’t want to do anything. Stop the car! I don’t want any help…I shouldn’t have trusted you…” she said. frightened.

“Lily, please listen to me,” George begged. “Do not get me wrong! I just wanted to ask you to pretend to be my fiancee in front of my mom, that’s all!”

“What?” Lily’s eyes widened in surprise. “Your bride?”

“Yes, my mother… she really wants me to get married. All I want is for you to pretend to be my fiancé in front of her! can you please do this for me I promise I’ll help you and Amelia, and you two won’t want for anything!”

Lily paused for a moment, then nodded in response to George’s request, considering she was alone, homeless, and with a one-year-old girl in her care. Little did she know, however, that she would be in for a surprise at George’s house.

“YOU?! What are you doing here?!” gasped Mrs. Miller when she saw Lily.

“Mom, what’s going on? do you know lily I passed her on the way and she needed help, so…”

“Georgie!” said Mrs. Miller, trembling. “She – she’s Max’s wife, Lily! Of course I know her!”

George couldn’t believe his ears! He turned to Lily, who was sobbing now. “I’m sorry for refusing your help, Mrs. Miller. I – I thought I could take care of Amelia on my own, but… I – I was wrong…”

“It’s alright, honey,” Mrs. Miller said as she hugged Lily. “Come in. I told you to accept my help, but kids these days…”

Mrs. Miller ushered Lily in and served her tea and biscuits. Then she took Amelia in her arms and started rocking her.

“Mom, what’s going on?” George asked. “I don’t understand! what happened to max And what about Lily and Amelia?”

“Oh my God, George!” Mrs. Miller sighed. “When Lily got pregnant a year ago, everything changed. Max got divorced and moved on. I knew that boy was an idiot as soon as he walked into our house! But you know I promised your stepdad that I would take care of him when he was diagnosed with cancer… I asked Lily to move in with me after everything that had happened, but she said she would do it on her own do so I didn’t insist too much but now that I see them I wish I had done it more firmly.”

George was out of words! He hadn’t heard from his half-brother Max for years! In fact, Max hadn’t invited him to the wedding because they didn’t get along. And now that he knew how he had abused Lily, he despised him even more.

“I’m sorry your plan didn’t work out, George,” Lily whispered as Mrs. Miller ushered Amelia into her room. “I wish I could be more helpful, but…”

George hugged Lily and said, “I’m glad you and Amelia are okay, Lily, and that’s all I care about.”

Lily was a little taken aback by his reaction, but she had also started to feel for George, especially for the kind and supportive person he was. She hugged him and thanked him for his help.

Ms. Miller quickly realized that the two had developed a certain affection for one another. So after a few days she proposed to George and Lily.

“Listen, kids,” she said. “I know I’m old, but not too old not to see what’s going on. I think you would be great parents to our little Amelia. She is only one year old and deserves to have a happy family.”

Lily and George looked at each other and smiled. They knew there was a reason they were dating. A month later they married.
